If you have a claim against someone you know, then you are seeking monetary damages (your claim) and you are the CLAIMANT. Simply video record your argument (three minute limit), save it to your computer, and go to the Ujuj website. Click on the Upload Your Case link and you will be taken to a new page where you will register and upload your video argument. Provide up to a 50 character description of the claim and enter the amount claimed in the appropriate text boxes. You must know the email address of the person against whom you are filing your case. When, and only when, the RESPONDENT uploads his/her video argument, the case will then be made available for voting for a period of seven days. When the CASE closes, a legally binding agreement will be emailed to you with the final amount the RESPONDENT is responsible for paying you, the CLAIMANT, as damages. Final amount will be determined by the average vote of voters to your CASE.
If the final average vote is less than 33%, then you lose the CASE and the RESPONDENT will owe nothing to you, the CLAIMANT. However, you will owe the RESPONDENT 10% of the amount claimed.
If you are the recipient of an email notice from Ujuj notifying you that there is a small claims case pending against you then you are the RESPONDENT. Simply click on the Ujuj link in the email and enter the unique Case ID from your email notice into the RESPOND TO A CLAIM link. You will then be able to view the video case against you. Video your defense argument (three minute limit) and return to the Ujuj website and click on the Respond to a Claim link. Enter the Case ID and then register and upload your video argument. Only after uploading your argument will the case be published and made available for voting for a period of seven days. When the CASE closes, a legally binding agreement will be emailed to you with the final amount you are responsible for paying the CLAIMANT as damages. Final amount will be determined by the average vote of voters to your CASE.
If the final average vote is less than 33%, then you win the CASE and you will owe nothing to the CLAIMANT. However, the CLAIMANT will owe you 10% of the amount claimed.
If you are not party to a case you can help decide the outcome of any OPEN CASE. Simply register for a Ujuj account and you will then be able to vote and comment on any OPEN CASE. Select a case, watch the video arguments, and then click on Vote for Amount to Be Awarded. You will then be taken to a page that shows a sliding scale, from $0 to the amount claimed. Based on your opinion of who is right and who is wrong, select the amount that the RESPONDENT should pay as damages. For example, if the CLAIMANT is seeking a $1,000 award and you feel that the appropriate amount to be awarded is $400, then select $400 on the sliding scale. Only one vote per case per registered user is allowed. All votes will be averaged until the Case closes. The average vote at closing will then be used to determine the final award. After casting your vote you will be able to comment on the case.
Ujuj recognizes the value of our registered voters and has created a recognition system for our frequent voters. The recognition system includes 6 levels that can be attained:
If you wish to watch the cases without registering you may do so but you will not have the ability to vote or comment on the cases.
CLOSED CASES can only be viewed (i.e. cannot vote or comment on CLOSED CASES). CLOSED CASES will display the final award.
To have your argument published on Ujuj for seven days of voting, both CLAIMANT and RESPONDENT each agree to pay a fee dependent on the amount claimed by the CLAIMANT, charged to each credit card at time of video upload. Cases will only be available for viewing and voting after both CLAIMANT and RESPONDENT have uploaded their respective video arguments.
Each party will have the award funds charged to their credit cards before the case opens for voting. This charge will be held in escrow until the case settles. Upon settlement, the winner will receive the final award from the losing party's escrowed funds. All remaining balances will then be credited back to each party's credit card.
The CLAIMANT can receive a full refund if the RESPONDENT does not respond by uploading his/her argument within 30 days. 30 days after submitting your CASE, simply contact Ujuj at support@ujuj .org, provide your CASE ID and request a full refund. Enter "Refund Request: [CASE ID]" in the subject line for prompt attention.
Once published, the CLAIMANT can cancel the CASE within 24 hours and receive a 50% refund. Simply contact Ujuj at email@example.com, provide your CASE ID and request the CASE be cancelled. Enter Cancel [CASE ID] in the subject line for prompt attention.
